School Library Makeover

Since losing a building in the Christchurch earthquake, the school library at St Patrick’s Primary School had been set up in a pre-fab room. Our aim was to create an ‘enchanted forest’ effect, a fun and magical environment for kids to be in.

We build a ‘reading cave’, inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar, where kids can hide away, curl up and read a book. As the room is also used for after school programmes and music lessons, it had to be multi-functional, so all shelving and furniture got wheels attached for easy moving.

We aimed to re-use, re-cycle and re-purpose where possible. Cladding the existing wall shelving and freestanding shelving units to match with the theme.
